The natural world has always offered us boundless opportunities for resources, recreation, and relaxation. During this webinar, we’ll hear from Tim Walsh, director of Adventure Recovery, on how the natural world can play an important role in mental health. Adventure Recovery is an organization offering an innovative model of outdoor programming that provides a connection to mental health and facilitates transformational adventure experiences that teach individuals how to embody self-efficacy, empowerment, and confidence. The Adventure Recovery model brings us into contact with our most innate tool for healing—nature. We are a part of the natural world. When body, mind, and spirit are united in adventure activities, we experience tremendous healing, growth, and inspiration.

Presenter Bio: Tim Walsh is an outdoor educator and recovery coach trainer who specializes in guiding people through the external and internal wilderness. Over the last 25 years, he has founded and led numerous programs and institutions in youth development and the addictions recovery and prevention fields. Tim advises and develops experiential education, adventure therapy, and substance misuse awareness programs for private schools, youth development programs, treatment centers, and national conferences. He’s a pioneer in the field of adventure-based counseling and was one of the founding team members of Mountainside Treatment Center and served as Executive Director for Newport Academy.

This webinar is part of the Conservation Education Lunch & Learn Series. Education is an essential part of conservation. Understanding how people learn and what motivates conservation-based behavior changes are complex subjects that span across many scientific disciplines. This free virtual series dives into the science behind educational efforts and practices by learning from experts on a variety of science and educational topics.
