Ponca State Park and members of the Loess Hills Audubon Society welcome participants of all ages and experience levels to participate in the annual citizen science Christmas Bird Count being held at Ponca State Park on Wednesday, December 14th.
Schedule of events:
Owling at 6:00 a.m.
General bird count at 7:30 a.m.
General bird count at 1:00 p.m.
Guests are welcome to attend all three sessions. Ponca State Park’s Christmas Bird Count is part of a nationwide Christmas Bird Count conducted by the National Audubon Society, where data collected is utilized by conservationists and
researchers around the world.
We will meet at the Resource and Education Center then break into teams. Come join the fun; learn bird identification tips and see some uncommon species. We expect to see 50 species of birds ranging from Great Prairie
Chickens to White Breasted Nuthatch.
Please dress for the weather; and bring a water bottle, binoculars, and bird book. If you do not have binoculars or a bird book, Ponca State Park will loan them to you. All participants will be provided lunch.
