Buffalo Soldiers Historical Cavalry Demonstration at Fort Robinson

July 7 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Event Series Event Series (See All)

Join us the weekend of July 6 & 7 at Fort Robinson State Park to witness living history with Buffalo Soldiers of the American West! African-American soldiers of the Ninth and Tenth cavalry regiments (called “buffalo soldiers” by the Plains Indians) garrisoned Fort Robinson for eighteen years and played an important role in northwestern Nebraska’s history.

A historical cavalry demonstration will be held each day at the Mare Barn Equestrian Center. The Buffalo Soldiers programs will be approximately 1 hour each, and will include flag presentation, mounted and dismounted cavalry drills, manual of arms, saber drills, and a history of the Buffalo Soldiers. They will have a tent camp set up where the public will be able to interact with the reenactors, see historical artifacts and purchase souvenirs.

Partners for this event include the Buffalo Soldiers of the American West, History Nebraska, Humanities Nebraska and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.
