Amphibians of Nebraska

Hop into the fascinating world of Nebraska amphibians with state herpetologist Dennis Ferraro at the Schramm Education Center as we kick off National Amphibian Week. Learn about the diverse amphibians that call Nebraska home and how to conserve them. We are offering two opportunities for froggy fun – feel free to participate in one or both! Sessions are recommended for ages 8+ due to the lecture activity. Participants should dress for the weather forecast and wear closed-toed shoes that can get dirty.
Amphibians of Nebraska Class, 2:00 – 4:30 pm
-Learn about the many amphibians that call Nebraska home in a lecture-style presentation in the Schramm Education Center Classroom and view live examples of many of Nebraska’s frog, toad, and salamander species
-Then, with the supervision of a professional scientist, learn and practice catching and identifying frogs outdoors at a pond.

Frog & Toad Call Identification Class, 7:30 – 9:00 pm
-Learn to identify Nebraska amphibians by their calls through a quick classroom presentation followed by a walk down to the park (roughly 1 mile round trip) to hear frogs calling. We recommend bringing a head lamp or flashlight.
