Have Fun at Ponca State Park!
9:00– 11:00 am Introduction to Atlatl — Atlatl Participants will learn how to use the ancient Paleo-Indian spear throwing tool, called an atlatl. Learn how it works and how it helped our ancient ancestors survive. All equipment will be provided. Meet at the Atlatl range in the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex. $1/6 throws.
1:00 pm Bug Crawl — Did you know that approximately 80% of the world’s animals are insects! Join a naturalist as we learn about the amazing insects that call Ponca State Park their home. Bug nets and jars will be provided. Participants will also receive a 20% off coupon good towards the purchase of bug items in our gift shop. Meet at the Resource and Education Center. Free.
3:00 pm Being an Outdoor Survivor – Learn how to survive in the outdoors – just in case! This class teaches the skills related to providing food, water and shelter in the outdoors. A great class for school groups, Scouts, etc. Meet at the West Shelter House. Free
Check out our new Ponca Scout Program! Scouts will earn a Ponca Scout Badge by completing an activity, challenge, and attending an outdoor education program. Four age groups are available including Bumble Bee Scouts (3-4 year olds), Salamander Scouts (5-6 year olds) Raccoon Scouts (7-9 year olds), and Whitetail Scouts (10 year olds and up). Everything you need to complete the Ponca Scout Program is in a scout bag. Purchase a Ponca Scout Bag at the Resource and Education Center. Cost $7/Scout Bag.
