Fort Atkinson State Historical Park will celebrate Independence Day by reenacting daily events from the fort as described in a newspaper from that era. Join us for a peek into the history of this 1820s military fort.

Living History Schedule with interpretive hours from 10am to 5pm as follows:

                                    Orders of the Day for 2nd July 1821 (Saturday)

10:00       Raise Flag

11:00       [Prepare for Inspection]     

11:30       Inspection

Noon      Assembly  Noon Gun

(Interpretative activities cease at all military and artificer’s sites to allow preparation of Parade.)

1:30         Grand Parade of Review, Declaration of Independence

2:00         Salute to the States

2:45

3:30         Liquor Ration

4:25         Drummers Call for Retreat

4:45         The Retreat   (Fourth Roll Call, inspection, evening gun fired, Colors are lowered, call in sentries – cease all challenging, End of publik hours)

On-going demonstrations:

Spinners & Weavers (Rooms east of South Gate)

Carpenter (Southeast Quadrant) Butter Churning ( Southeast Quadrant)

Laundress’s (Next to Wood Cooper)

School & Archaeology Room (Northeast Quadrant)  times posted

Sutler’s Store (Outside of the North Gate) Period items, beverages, snacks, etc. may be purchased

Armorer Shop (Armorer, Blacksmith, Tinsmith)

Council House (North of Fort, on the hill) Fur Traders (North of Council House)

Bake Oven (Across from the Council House)

Garden (Between North Gate & Council House)

Officers Kitchen (Southwest Quadrant)

There is an individual charge for the Harold W. Andersen Visitor Center; $2 adults 13 and above, $1 children 3 to 13 and under 3 free.
