Start 2020 with a walk in the woods during Ponca State Park’s First Day Hike. Hikers will find themselves surrounded by oak, hackberry, and ironwood trees as they catch glimpses of the Missouri River at the highest points along the Bigley’s Ravine Trail. Bigley’s Ravine Trail is 1.6 miles of hilly terrain rated as moderate and recommended for ages five and up. This guided hike is also an opportunity for guests to kick off the 100 Happy Days Challenge. The 100 Happy Days Challenge was created in 2013 by Dmitry Golubnichy, who began by taking a picture every day for 100 days to increase happiness across the world. First Day Hike at Ponca State Park is scheduled for 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 1st, starting at the West Shelter. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served after the hike. There is also a photo scavenger hunt going on throughout the day that hikers can participate in.
Forms for the photo scavenger hunt can be picked up at the front desk in the Resource and Education Center. Dress for the weather and bring a camera or a cellphone to capture your best shots. A vehicle park permit is required. Please call Ponca State Park at 402-755-2284 with any questions.
