Beyond BOW- Gun Cleaning Workshop @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

Proper inspection, cleaning, and maintenance is critical in ensuring your firearm works properly. This particular workshop will focus on handguns and rifles. Under the guidance of our skilled instructors, you will learn and get hands-on experience on how to properly prep the firearm, clean, lubricate, and put it back together. We’ll cover methods on how to preserve any metals, woods, and polymers.

What to bring:
One or two of your CASED AND UNLOADED firearms (handgun and/or rifle), any tools your handgun requires to dissemble, and if available, your owner’s manual(s). Firearms will be inspected by staff prior to entry in the classrooms; please leave/store all ammunition separately from your firearm. Please specify in the registration the make and model of firearm you will bring for cleaning. Firearms will also be available if you don’t have one to clean.

Designed for fledgling outdoors enthusiasts, the Nebraska Adventures Camp is a way to explore the state without the gas mileage. Campers will develop an appreciation of the natural world by exploring different regions – the wildlife, landscapes, and unique adventures only found in Nebraska.

Preparing them for future excursions, campers will learn how to put up tents, build campfires, cook outdoors, take photos, explore the wild, and play outdoor games. Practical safe skills with slingshots, bows, atlatl, and rifles are included.

Drop-off is no earlier than 15 minutes before camp and pick-up is no later than 15 minutes after. No extended hours are offered for this camp.

Beyond BOW – Outdoor Survival Skills @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

Learning how to prepare for adventures (expected or unexpected) without modern conveniences is a worthy challenge. This class will show you a few essential skills that can come in handy when something doesn’t go according to plan, or if you are looking to add a little “wild” to your next camping trip.

Techniques covered in this class come in handy for single day outdoor trips, more extended hiking excursions, and travel emergencies.

Topics covered include essential tool kits, fire building, water resources, nutrition, hypothermia, and basic first aid supplies. Each student will receive a basic survival kit.

Portions of the class may take place outside, please dress for the weather. No prior experience needed! Instructed by Ross Young. $10/participant.

Beyond BOW – Intro to Handgun Series @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

THIS CLASS IS NOW FULL!

Learn basic fundamentals of shooting, handgun selection, and safety in a comfortable atmosphere. Participate in the full series to gain confidence, challenge yourself to more techniques, and hang out with like-minded ladies.

Must 18 years or older to register. $15/participant/session.

This series will be on Mondays from 6-8 pm.

Attend anywhere from one to all four sessions. Please be sure to attend sessions 1 and 2 in order to attend sessions 3 and 4 if you are an introductory level student.

Session 1 – Feb 3: Intro to Handguns, Firearm Safety, Gun Handling, Range Rules, and .22 Handgun Shooting

Session 2 – Feb 10: More .22 Handgun Shooting – Getting Comfortable with the Gun and the Range

Session 3 – Feb 17: Introduction to Centerfire Handguns

Session 4 – Feb 24: Marksmanship Coaching & Target Challenge

You may bring your own handgun and ammunition, or we will provide one for you. All guns entering the facility must be unloaded, cased, and action open.
