Youth Hunter Education Challenge @ Platte River State Park
Oct 15 @ 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Special Instructions for All Students

Youth over the age of 11 who have successfully completed hunter education are invited to take part in Nebraska’s state Youth Hunter Education Challenge.

The Youth Hunter Education Challenge, scheduled for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 15, will allow youth to compete for prizes in a simulated hunting experience. The event, which is sponsored by the National Rifle Association, will help youth build their skills, get real-world hunting experience and learn about hunter safety and responsibility as they compete in six challenges, including 3-D archery, muzzleloading and shotgun. The event will take place at the Roger G. Sykes Outdoor Heritage Education Complex at Platte River State Park near Louisville.

The challenge’s simulated hunt setup provides the ideal practical environment for reinforcing and testing a young hunter’s skills. The event is designed to further the skills taught in hunter education and to give young hunters the skills and confidence they need to make hunting a lifelong pursuit.

The challenge is available only to hunter education graduates age 11 or older who have not yet completed high school. Hunters are encouraged to use their own equipment and ammunition, but are not required to. A T-shirt and lunch will be provided for all participants. Prizes provided by the Big Game Conservation Association will be given to winners in each category

Project Appleseed .22 Competition @ Platte River State Park
Apr 15 @ 8:30 am – 5:00 pm

Weekend Marksmanship Clinic: An intensive one day program shot from three positions at 25 meters, but with targets scaled to simulated shooting at 100, 200, 300 and 400 yards. Participants will learn the six steps to firing a shot, natural point of aim, steady hold factors, and much more. Youth and Adults 8 years old and up.

What is Project Appleseed? The Revolutionary War Veterans Association is committed to teaching two things: rifle marksmanship and our early American heritage. We do this for one simple reason, the skill and knowledge of what our founding fathers left to us is eroding in modern America and without deliberate action, they will be lost to ignorance and apathy.
