Archery 1 – JOAD @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

This basic USA Archery class is open to students who are new to JOAD or who are still working to advance to Archery 2. Explore Archery is a recommended prerequisite but not required.

Our Center Shot Archery Academy course includes achievement awards, skill training, and games with a focus on guiding each student in improvement at their own pace. Each session includes a short lesson and coaching while students are on the line. Archery 1 students have the opportunity to shoot for their green and purple pins during select class sessions. Over the course of the quarter, students will advance their scoring skills, learn about competition etiquette, and work to achieve the pins and techniques needed to advance to the next level.

No equipment is required, but personal equipment is allowed for some portions of the class.

If seats are listed as available, students may register and join the class at any time except the last 4 weeks of the quarter. Allowances may be made at the discretion of the instructor. Full price still applies.

Ages 8 and over.

Glock Practice Nights @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center
Aug 27 @ 5:00 pm – 7:15 pm

Come practice for upcoming Glock matches at the Outdoor Education Center on July 6, August 3, and September 7.

Attend as few or as many nights as you wish, $10 per attendance. Course of fire and targets will match actual competition conditions.

Participants may arrive and start any time between 5-7:15 pm.

Archery 2 – JOAD @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

Our Center Shot Archery Academy intermediate level class is open to students who have previously been enrolled at the intermediate level OR have achieved the listed prerequisites.

Lessons will focus on the form, equipment, and attitude needed to shoot a bow in recreational and competitive settings. Each session includes a short lesson and coaching while students are on the line. Students will receive their own copy of the National Training System (NTS) shot cycle, a stretch band, a string bow, and a finger sling.

No personal equipment is required, but should start to be considered.

Ages 8 and over.

Prerequisites:
– Name at least four steps of the NTS Shot Cycle
– Earn at least 4 pins (white pin) in any discipline

Learn to Hunt – Dove @ Nebraska Game & Parks Outdoor Education Center
Aug 27 @ 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Dove hunting offers some of the fastest shooting of the entire fall. This workshop covers opportunities for hunting this sporty bird, hunting strategies, equipment and more. Designed to improve confidence and expand knowledge for those with little to no experience, this workshop is open to anyone interested in becoming more successful at dove hunting.

Cover Crop Tour in Southwest Nebraska @ 4-H Building

Join us for a tour of cover crops in SW Nebraska and learn how they can fit into your farm or ranch operation. Many cover crop topics will be covered including grazing, wildlife use, soil health, NRCS programs and much more.

College Night on the Range @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center
Aug 28 @ 8:30 pm – 10:00 pm

Take a break from the books this semester and pick up a bow at the Outdoor Education Center’s College Night on the Range. All college-age students shoot for only $5! This includes instruction and equipment if necessary, but personal equipment is also welcome.

No registration needed! Doors open at 8:30 pm and archers can shoot until 10 pm. No additional admittance after 9 pm. (Range will not be available during academic holiday weeks.)

This additional Center Shot Archery Academy class section offers high level coaching with educational opportunities outside of class, such as personalized equipment advice and individual coaching sessions. Students have the opportunity to continue to hone the skills needed to earn pins and work at an advanced competency level for either competition or recreation.

– Earn at least 5 pins (black pin) in any discipline

Explore Archery @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

Explore Archery is a fun and perfect fit for beginners of any ability wanting to get started in the sport of archery.

If a student is fairly new to archery and looking for a full introductory program, Explore Archery has everything you need – bows, arrows, and enthusiastic instructors! You’ll learn range safety, fundamentals of archery shooting, and parts of a bow and arrow – plus receive skill-building coaching and play exciting games.

Ages 8 and over.

Archery Team – JOAD @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

The team is open to students that have previously been enrolled at the team level OR have achieved the listed prerequisites.

Center Shot Archery Academy team members are focused on competing in their chosen sport and taking their abilities to the next level ? locally and nationally. Team members have amazing opportunities as they travel, meet archers from other teams, and test their skills with various styles of tournaments. Parents/students must fill out an understanding of commitment form. Personal coaching and additional educational opportunities mean that students keep growing in proportion to the work they put in.

Ages 8 and over.

Prerequisites:
– Archery 3
– Name at least seven steps of the NTS Shot Cycle
– Earn at least 5 pins (black pin) in any discipline
– Personal equipment
– Committed to compete
– 8 Local tournaments
– 1 regional or national tournament

Linking Literature & Science: Insects @ Benson Baptist Church

This workshop requires pre-registration.  To register email lindsay.rogers@nebraska.gov with your full name, email address, ages of children you work with, and affiliation.

Join us as we investigate ways to use literature books to engage children in meaningful interdisciplinary lessons using insects.  We will connect literature books with simple, long-term science investigations.  This workshop is specifically designed for  preschool aged form and informal educators and daycare providers.
