10:00 am Winter Critter Corner — Have you ever wondered how critters stay warm in the winter or where they find food? Join us for Winter Critters of Nebraska where participants will be able to see, touch, and sometimes smell live critters, furs, feathers, shells, skulls, etc. Meet at the Resource &
Education Center. Free.

1:00 pm Let’s Get Tracking—Hang out with a naturalist as we discover the shapes and patterns various animals leave in the snow. Then we’ll get busy making our own wacky tracks! Each participant will design and take home their own unique pair of attachable tracks. Meet at the Resource & Education Center. Limit of 30 partici- pants. Free.

2:30 pm Winter Hike— Enjoy a beautiful views of the park, search for animals tracks, and learn tips and tricks to identify trees in the winter. Discover the history of Ponca State Park’s Old Oak Tree. Meet at the West Shelter House. Free.

Cold Days, Warm Hearts & Family Fun @ ET Mahoney State Park

Archery 1 – JOAD @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

This basic USA Archery class is open to students who are new to JOAD or who are still working to advance to Archery 2. Explore Archery is a recommended prerequisite but not required.

Our Center Shot Archery Academy course includes achievement awards, skill training, and games with a focus on guiding each student in improvement at their own pace. Each session includes a short lesson and coaching while students are on the line. Archery 1 students have the opportunity to shoot for their green and purple pins during select class sessions. Over the course of the quarter, students will advance their scoring skills, learn about competition etiquette, and work to achieve the pins and techniques needed to advance to the next level.

No equipment is required, but personal equipment is allowed for some portions of the class.

If seats are listed as available, students may register and join the class at any time except the last 4 weeks of the quarter. Allowances may be made at the discretion of the instructor. Full price still applies.

Ages 8 and over.

Archery 2 – JOAD @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

Our Center Shot Archery Academy intermediate level class is open to students who have previously been enrolled at the intermediate level OR have achieved the listed prerequisites.

Lessons will focus on the form, equipment, and attitude needed to shoot a bow in recreational and competitive settings. Each session includes a short lesson and coaching while students are on the line. Students will receive their own copy of the National Training System (NTS) shot cycle, a stretch band, a string bow, and a finger sling.

No personal equipment is required, but should start to be considered.

Ages 8 and over.

Prerequisites:
– Name at least four steps of the NTS Shot Cycle
– Earn at least 4 pins (white pin) in any discipline

Birds & Books: Linking Literature & Science @ Elkhorn Valley Museum

This workshop requires pre-registration.  To register email Jamie.bachmann@nebraska.gov with your full name, email address, ages of children you work with, and affiliation.

Join us as we investigate ways to use literature books to engage children in meaningful interdisciplinary lessons using birds.  We will connect literature books with simple, long-term science investigations.  This workshop is specifically designed for  preschool aged form and informal educators and daycare providers.

Workshop participants will receive:

bird-related science-focused lessons, bird related literature books, birds of Nebraska Field Guide, a bird feeder

College Night on the Range @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

Take a break from the books this semester and pick up a bow at the Outdoor Education Center’s College Night on the Range. All college-age students shoot for only $5! This includes instruction and equipment if necessary, but personal equipment is also welcome.

No registration needed! Doors open at 8:30 pm and archers can shoot until 10 pm. No additional admittance after 9 pm. (Range will not be available during academic holiday weeks.)

Rimfire Pistol League (Winter Series) @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

Join us this winter for this popular league for pistol enthusiasts of all skill levels. New this season – shooters can participate in either optical (red dot/scope) or metallic sight divisions.

Scores for each evening and a cumulative score for the 8 week series offer plenty of opportunity to get in on the action.

Course of fire: Target B-33, 50 rounds total in 15 minutes. Start at 5 yards – 15 rounds; 15 yards – 20 rounds; 25 yards – 15 rounds.

Minors ages 12-18 must be accompanied by parent or legal guardian. Shooters provide their own .22 pistol and ammunition.

Participants may arrive and start any time between 5-7:15 pm.

$45/participant/series

Rimfire Rifle League (Winter Series) @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

Join us this winter for this popular league for rifle enthusiasts of all skill levels. Shooters can participate in either optical (red dot/scope) or metallic sight divisions.

New targets this year! Still 50 shots/person/evening.

Minors ages 8-18 must be accompanied by parent or legal guardian. Shooters provide their own .22 rifle and ammunition.

Participants may arrive and start any time between 5-7:15 pm.
