First Day Hike – Full Moon Celebration @ Mormon Island State Recreation Area
Dec 31 2018 @ 11:00 pm – Jan 1 2019 @ 1:00 am

Our First Day Hike will take place at midnight to celebrate the kickoff to the New Year with a night hike, taking advantage of the fresh full moon to light the path that Falls on January 1st this year. We’ll start the night off with a bonfire and activities at 11:00pm prior to the midnight hike. Folks can enjoy the sounds of nature during the night, hear the slushy river flowing by, the sounds of owls, deer crunching through the snow, and enjoy each other’s company on a hike they won’t forget through the wooded trail on a full moon night on the new year!

Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather and bring a flashlight. Meet at the beach area parking lot.

First Day Hike – A Walk with the Dogs @ Indian Cave State Park
Jan 1 @ 7:30 am – 9:00 am

We will be hosting a two mile dog-human trail hike on January 1, 2019. The hike will begin at 7:30am and end at 9:00am. Bring your dog and a leash (maximum 6ft)  and join us on a 2 mile jaunt through the woods and enjoy the scenery and comradery with other dog lovers.

Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather and bring water or snacks if desired.

A Park Entry Permit is required.

First Day Hike @ Platte River State Park

Platte River State Park is bringing in the New Year with hiking and bird watching. Hikers will have the option of climbing the observation tower after the hike. The hike will offer birding along the Stone creek trail as it passes our small water fall. A bonfire and hot chocolate will be provided. Visitors can climb the Lincoln Journal Star Tower and enjoy birdwatching along the Stone Creek trail by the park’s iconic waterfall. Hiker recommendations: water, snowshoes, snacks, and warm clothes. First Day Hike @ Wagon Train State Recreation Area

Join us for a First Day Hike at Wagon Train SRA! Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about wildlife, bird identification, track identification and plant identification while enjoying a leisurely hike at Wagon Train SRA. Meet at the east entrance to the swimming beach parking lot. Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather, and bring binoculars and water or snacks if desired. Pets are permitted but must be leash (maximum 6 ft. leash).

First Day Hike @ Lake Ogallala SRA

Come join us for a 1 mile hike at the Lake Ogallala eagle viewing building during the peak of Bald Eagle viewing season. Participants could see over 100 bald eagles along with many different types of waterfowl. Pets are welcome on a maximum 6ft leash but not allowed inside the viewing building. The hike will begin and end at the viewing building where coffee and hot chocolate will be provided.

Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather and feel free to bring binoculars or camera.

First Day Hike @ Fremont State Lakes

Join us at Fremont State Lakes for a First Day Hike to ring in the new year! Bring your binoculars for the 1.5 mile hike in the park where we will be observing the local waterfowl and wildlife.

Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather and feel free to bring water and snacks.
