Explore Archery: Wednesdays Nov-Dec @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

Explore Archery (Archery for Beginners) is a fun and perfect fit for archers of any age/ability wanting to get involved in the sport of target archery.

If you are new to the sport of archery and looking for an introductory program to sign up for, Explore Archery has what you need to get started! You’ll learn range safety, the fundamentals of archery shooting, and the parts of a bow & arrow, plus play exciting games and earn achievement awards.

Ages 8 and over.

Preregistration required / class size limited.

$40.00 for 7 week session; equipment included or bring your own equipment to shoot if you would rather.

College Night on the Range @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center
Nov 15 @ 8:30 pm – 10:00 pm

Take a break from the books this semester and pick up a bow at the Outdoor Education Center’s College Night on the Range. All college-age students shoot for only $5! This includes instruction and equipment if necessary, but personal equipment is also welcome.

No registration needed! Doors open at 8:30 pm and archers can shoot until 10 pm. No additional admittance after 9 pm. (Range will not be available November 22nd for Thanksgiving week.)

Center Shot Academy (JOAD): Oct-Dec Qtr @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center
Nov 16 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Advanced Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD). Enrollment by instructor permission only.

This USA Archery program runs quarter to quarter. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a minimum of 10 weeks. This program will include achievement awards, skill training and games with focus being on skill development. Students should wear close-toed shoes only.

Instructors on hand to teach skills, work at your own pace. Cost is $40.00 per quarter + membership in USA Archery.

Class is usually not held the week of a major holiday. Check “Meeting on” list above. Class is canceled in the event or threat of an imminent severe weather warning.

Competitive Compound JOAD: Oct-Dec Qtr @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center
Nov 17 @ 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm

This Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) course is being formulated to bolster a foundation for compound-specific shooters. The class will meet one time per week from 5:00PM-6:30PM and each lesson will focus on the form, equipment, and attitude when shooting compound bows in a competitive setting.

PREREQUISITES:
1. Personal compound equipment is required
2. Equipment should be fitted to the individual in terms of draw weight and length before the first class.
3. Membership to USA Archery (https://webpoint.usarchery.org/wp/Memberships/Join.wp)

$40.00 Per Participant (+ USA Archery yearly membership)

Acrylic Painting @ Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area
Nov 17 @ 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Join the Park Naturalist out at the lake for acrylic painting! Meet at the Lake McConaughy Visitor/Water Interpretive Center. 

Follow guided instructions on an original painting or come up with an idea of your own.

Canvas, brushes, paint, and refreshments will all be provided, for a fee of $10 per person.

NASP Team Series @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center
Nov 18 @ 8:00 am – 12:00 pm

Center Shot Archery and Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center are teaming up to present a NASP Mixed Team Olympic Series. This unique archery event combines the equipment and distances of NASP with the challenge of Olympic team archery.

The series is a blend of accuracy, speed, and strategy that runs as a five (5) person team event; there are no individual scores. A point system is used to determine the overall winner at the end of the series. This program starts on Saturday, October 21st and will continue weekly until November 18th.

NASP Mixed Team Olympic Series is open to all Nebraska public, private, parochial, and homeschool NASP programs.

Middle school teams will compete from 8:00 – 9:30 am.
High School Teams will compete 10:30 am – 12:00 pm.

All competitions are held at the Nebraska Outdoor Education Center.

Ponca Fun Day @ Ponca State Park

Have Fun at Ponca State Park!

10:00 am Critter Corner — Critter Corner is a very popular program for all ages. This program provides a snapshot of wildlife found along the Missouri River. Participants will be able to see and touch live critters, furs, feathers, shells, skulls, etc. Meet at the Resource and Education Center. Free.

1:00 pm Twig Trivet Come make a holiday twig trivet. In November twigs are plentiful, and this natural trivet can be used for hot pans and mugs. Wonderful as a gift or for your home. Pre-register and Pay at the Front Desk. Meet at the Resource & Education Center. $1 per craft.

3:00 pm Gobbling About Turkeys — Do you know the difference between a Tom and a Jake, or that turkeys have beards? Come learn interesting Turkey facts! Then, amaze your family at Thanksgiving. Pre-register and Pay at the Front Desk. Meet at the Resource & Education Center. $1 per craft.
