The Visitor Center will be open for crane information and history from 9am-5pm daily.

Beginner Muzzle Loader Class @ WHSSC @ Wildcat Hills Shooting Sports Complex

Explore Archery: Fridays Mar-Apr @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

Explore Archery (Archery for Beginners) is a fun and perfect fit for archers of any age/ ability wanting to get involved in the sport of target archery.

If you are new to the sport of archery and looking for an introductory program to sign up for, Explore Archery has what you need to get started! You’ll learn range safety, the fundamentals of archery shooting, and the parts of a bow & arrow, plus play exciting games and earn achievement awards.

Ages 8 and over.

Pre-registration required / class size limited.

$40.00 for 8 week session; equipment included or bring your own equipment to shoot if you would rather.

Competitive Compound JOAD @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

This Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) course is being formulated to bolster a foundation for compound-specific shooters. The class will meet one time per week from 6:00PM-7:30PM and each lesson will focus on the form, equipment, and attitude when shooting compound bows in a competitive setting.

PREREQUISITES:
1. Personal compound equipment is required
2. Equipment should be fitted to the individual in terms of draw weight and length before the first class.

This March and April, Medicine Wagon Productions presents “Always a Bridesmaid” at the Kountze Memorial Theater.

In this hilarious comedic romp, four friends have sworn to keep the promise they made on the night of their Senior Prom: to be in each other’s weddings … no matter what. More than thirty years later, these Southern friends-for-life are still making “the long walk” for each other, determined to honor that vow.

Starring Casandra Rhodes, Colleen Groleau, Erin Pieschke, Rosalie Duffy & Melinda Mead. The production is directed by Kathryn Cover.

Runs: Friday, March 10–Sunday, April 9, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm, Sundays at 2:00 pm.

The Outdoor Education Center’s indoor archery range will be closed to public use March 11, 2017 until 4 pm due to a tournament. The firearm range and outdoor archery range are not affected by this closure.

Have Fun at Ponca State Park!

6:00 am Sunrise Bird Tour— Get up before the birds! Join an expert guide from the Loess Hills Audubon Society to watch waterfowl wake-up and continue their migration. Make sure to bundle up for this program and feel free to bring your binoculars, spotting scopes, and cameras. Please pre-register by calling (402)755-2284. Meet inside the Resource and Education Center. Free. (Limited to 10 people per tour).

11:00 am Bird Critter Corner— Learn about a variety of bird species and why they migrate. Participates will be able to touch and feel talons, feathers, and beaks. A live African ring-necked dove will be pre-sent for the kids to see. Meet at the Resource and Education Center. Free.

2:00 pm Treats for the Birds— Learn how to make suet and a natural suet feeder for you backyard birds. We will also be learning how to care for and attract birds to your feeders at home. Suet feeders will be available to purchase at a discounted rate. Meet at the Resource and Education Center. Cost $1 per bird treat and $2 per suet feeder (Limited to 20 suet feeders).

5:30 pm Sunset Bird Tour— Watch the birds return to the safety of the marsh at dusk. A guide from the Loess Hills Audubon Society will accompany you to our bird blinds. Binoculars, spotting scopes, and bird books will be available on the tour. Please pre-register by calling (402)755-2284. Meet in front of the Resource and Education Center. Free. (Limited to 10 people per tour).

This weekend there will be a 20% discount on all bird merchandise and a 30% discount on mini-lodges.

There is still time to enter our Snowman Contest. The Snowman Building Contest ends the first day of spring, March 19.

(Women’s only) Nebraska Dual Hunter Education Classroom Course @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

This is a women’s only combination bowhunter and firearm education course taught by women instructors. Live fire and outdoor activities will be taught so dress appropriately for the weather. Pack lunches, snacks and drinks as none will be available.

Kid’s Butterfly Day! @ Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area

Join us for Kid’s Butterfly Day!  Saturday, March 11th, 10:00am-12:00am at Lake McConaughy Visitor/Water Interpretive Center.

Kids and their parents are invited out to the lake for an early celebration of National Learn About Butterflies Day. There will be a short video and presentation, followed by butterfly crafts! Each individual will leave with a butterfly themed snack.

The activity is free of charge. Registration is required.
