Families on Target is a fun and perfect fit for beginners of any ability wanting to get started in the sport of archery.

If your family is fairly new to archery and looking for a full introductory program, Families on Target has everything you need – bows, arrows, and enthusiastic instructors! You’ll learn range safety, fundamentals of archery shooting, and parts of a bow and arrow – plus receive skill-building coaching and play exciting games.

A parent/guardian must participate in the shoot.

Archery 1 – JOAD @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

This basic USA Archery class is open to students who are new to JOAD or who are still working to advance to Archery 2. Explore Archery is a recommended prerequisite but not required.

Our Center Shot Archery Academy course includes achievement awards, skill training, and games with a focus on guiding each student in improvement at their own pace. Each session includes a short lesson and coaching while students are on the line. Archery 1 students have the opportunity to shoot for their green and purple pins during select class sessions. Over the course of the quarter, students will advance their scoring skills, learn about competition etiquette, and work to achieve the pins and techniques needed to advance to the next level.

No equipment is required, but personal equipment is allowed for some portions of the class.

If seats are listed as available, students may register and join the class at any time except the last 4 weeks of the quarter. Allowances may be made at the discretion of the instructor. Full price still applies.

Ages 8 and over.

Perfect for beginners, our Lunch and Lessons firearm series provides an introduction to different gun types – at a convenient time.

Fridays in July 11:15-12pm! This month, be sure to bring your sack lunch with you. Attend from one to all four sessions depending on your schedule. Each session will include a hands-on firearm activity.

July 12: Rifle (.22 caliber) – $20

Take your first shots with us!

The biggest challenge for new shooters is getting started. First Shots makes getting started in shooting very easy – and, best of all, it’s only $10!

At a First Shots seminar, you’ll receive:
-An educational introduction to the safe and recreational use of firearms
-A clear understanding of the local requirements for owning and purchasing a firearm
-Individual and group training
-A rundown of shooting sports opportunities for all levels of interest
-A chance to give shooting a try!

This seminar offers a small group setting for students ages 16 and over.

Attending participants receive a reward coupon for over 50% off their next handgun class at the Outdoor Education Center. Preregistration required.

Closed-neck shirts and closed-toe shoes are recommended.

SECOND SHOT Pistol @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

Our Second Shot Handgun course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a handgun safely. In addition, this class has been designed as a small group setting with the instructor for students ages 16 and over.

Course covers:

Handgun knowledge & safe handling
Ammunition knowledge
Fundamentals of handgun shooting
Actual range practice
Eye & ear protection, guns, & targets provided
This class is designed for the people with little to no knowledge of handguns, or those who are years out of practice and want a good refresher course starting at the beginning. The class will begin in the classroom discussing the different types of handguns and how to handle them safely, ammunition, and the fundamentals of handgun shooting.

The second portion of the class is spent on the range. The basics of stance, sight picture, and trigger control are emphasized to maximize success the first time out. After completing this class the goal is that participants will be prepared to safely use the range.

Required equipment: none; may bring your personal equipment if you have it (with 25 rounds of ammunition). Closed neck shirts and closed toed shoes are recommended.

Nebraska Hunt Safe Session @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

Hunt Safe Session to finish a students certification after completing the online course. Please arrive slightly early and bring the parental release and proof of completion of the online course (certificate).

Students ages 11 through 15 who have completed Hunter-ed and/or Bowhunter-ed online courses must attend the Hunt Safe Session in order to be issued a certificate of completion. If you’ve completed the online course in the past 12 months, your voucher is still valid for certification. Please note, students 16 and older are welcome to attend but this Hunt Safe Session course is not required for certification.

To attend, proof of completion from the online course is required. Certification can be provided for both Archery Hunter Education and Firearm Hunter Education but vouchers must be presented for the online courses to earn completion certificates.

You must cancel your registration before Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at 6:00pm CDT.

All registrants for this event must be 11 years of age by July 30, 2019.
To be certified for this event you must be at least 11 years old by the last day of the class.
