Second Shots Pistol @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

Our Second Shots Pistol course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a handgun safely. In addition, this class has been designed as a small group setting with the instructor for students ages 16 and over.
Course covers:
Handgun knowledge & review safe handling
Ammunition knowledge
Fundamentals of handgun shooting
Actual range practice
A variety of pistols (different calibers), ammo, and targets provided
Please bring your own eye and ear protection
If you have your own pistol, you may bring it to use on the range (be sure to bring 50 rounds of ammunition with)
This class is designed to build the handgun skills introduced in our FIRST SHOTS course. It’s also a good refresher for those who are years out of practice. The class will begin in the classroom discussing the different types of handguns and how to handle them safely, ammunition, and reviewing the fundamentals of our FIRST SHOTS Pistol course.
The second portion of the class is spent on the range. The basics of stance, sight picture, and trigger control are emphasized to maximize success. After completing this class the goal is that participants will be prepared to safely use the range.
Closed-neck shirts and closed-toe shoes are recommended.
(Students age 18 and under MUST be accompanied by legal parent/guardian.)

The Science of Wildlife Diseases @ Online

Wild animals, domestic animals and humans share a large and increasing number of infectious diseases, known as zoonoses.  Humans and wildlife are more close than they ever have been and that increased interaction between humans and other animals facilitates infectious disease emergence.  Wildlife diseases can affect the sustainability of many populations.   Through this virtual event we will talk about diseases such as chronic wasting disease, white-nose syndrome, chytrid fungus and how they affect animals here in Nebraska.

Interested in connecting with the outdoors through hunting, but not sure how to get started? This class is for you! Our nine-week course is designed for beginners of all types – students do not need to have previous experience with archery or firearms.
Enhance your encounters with the outdoors by learning the basic skills used to get close to wildlife and interact with the natural world. Explore animal identification, behavior, calls, and tracking, plus scouting, outdoor preparedness, and ageless tricks to blend with the environment. Discover how hunting fits in to conservation efforts across the nation.
Stay safe by practicing with tree stands/safety harnesses and learning basic firearm and archery safety. Gain hands-on marksmanship experience with modern bowhunting equipment and firearms on our indoor ranges. By taking this class, students will have the foundation to successfully plan and conduct a hunt, as well as learn what to do after the shot.
Students will be able to earn their Firearm Hunter Education and Bowhunter Education Course certificates through this class.
Ages 11 and over.
Students will be outside for potions of the class. We recommend that participants bring (labeled) personal sunscreen, bug spray, hat/sunglasses, and water. Students may bring their own compound bow if they have one.

Gather your little ducklings, tadpoles, and bookworms for Nebraska Game and Parks’ new pre-k virtual nature program- Nature Tails!

Every Tuesday at 10am (Central Time) our outdoor educators from across the state will be reading a nature-themed children’s book in collaboration with the theme that week via ZOOM. After a short book there will be a quick activity for kiddos and families to participate in. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to participate as well.

**Can’t make it one week? Don’t worry about missing out. All the videos will be recorded and uploaded so your little cubs can watch whenever they want.
