The Outdoor Education Center’s indoor archery range will be closed to public use January 25th, 2020 until 4 p.m. due to an archery tournament. The firearm range and outdoor archery range are not affected by this closure.

Archery 1 – JOAD @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center
Jan 27 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

This basic USA Archery class is open to students who are new to JOAD or who are still working to advance to Archery 2. Explore Archery is a recommended prerequisite but not required.

Our Center Shot Archery Academy course includes achievement awards, skill training, and games with a focus on guiding each student in improvement at their own pace. Each session includes a short lesson and coaching while students are on the line. Archery 1 students have the opportunity to shoot for their green and purple pins during select class sessions. Over the course of the quarter, students will advance their scoring skills, learn about competition etiquette, and work to achieve the pins and techniques needed to advance to the next level.

No equipment is required, but personal equipment is allowed for some portions of the class.

If seats are listed as available, students may register and join the class at any time except the last 4 weeks of the quarter. Allowances may be made at the discretion of the instructor. Full price still applies.

Ages 8 and over.

Centerfire Challenge League (Winter Series) @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center
Jan 28 @ 5:00 pm – 7:15 pm

This league will provide fun and exciting pistol shooting for all skill levels, in a competitive but relaxed setting. Ages 14 and up. Minors must be accompanied by parent or legal guardian. Shooters will provide their own handgun and ammunition. This league runs for 8 weeks, with scores for each evening and a cumulative score for the series.

Course of fire:

2 strings of 5 rounds in 10 seconds at 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 yards – 50 shots total.

AP-1 target (23″ X 35″).

Participants may arrive and start any time between 5-7:15 pm.

Archery 2 – JOAD @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center
Jan 28 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Our Center Shot Archery Academy intermediate level class is open to students who have previously been enrolled at the intermediate level OR have achieved the listed prerequisites.

Lessons will focus on the form, equipment, and attitude needed to shoot a bow in recreational and competitive settings. Each session includes a short lesson and coaching while students are on the line. Students will receive their own copy of the National Training System (NTS) shot cycle, a stretch band, a string bow, and a finger sling.

No personal equipment is required, but should start to be considered.

Ages 8 and over.

Prerequisites:
– Name at least four steps of the NTS Shot Cycle
– Earn at least 4 pins (white pin) in any discipline

Growing Up WILD Educator Workshop @ North Creek Child Development Center

Growing up WILD provides an early foundation for developing positive attitudes and behaviors about nature and life-long social and academic skills. This award-winning early childhood curriculum guide is for educators of children ages 3-7. The guide builds on children’s sense of wonder about nature by providing age appropriate, interdisciplinary lessons. Each thematic lesson includes multiple activities which teach math, reading, letter recognition, science, social studies as well as social-emotional skills.

Each participant will receive a copy of the Growing UP WILD Curriculum upon completion of this training.

Growing Up WILD is a high-quality, easy to use curriculum guide for all educators, after school program leaders, and in home daycare providers who work with children ages 3-7 years old.  This curriculum involves social, emotional, physical, and cognitive domains to help foster learning in all areas.

Participants will receive:

  • Growing Up WILD curriculum guide with 21 lesson plans
  • 2.5 hours of approved in-service hours

Rimfire Pistol League (Winter Series) @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

Join us for this popular league for pistol enthusiasts of all skill levels. Pick from optical (red dot/scope) or metallic sight divisions, depending on your equipment.

Scores for each evening and a cumulative score for the 8 week series offer plenty of opportunity to get in on the action.

Course of fire: Target B-33, 50 rounds total in 15 minutes. Start at 5 yards – 15 rounds; 15 yards – 20 rounds; 25 yards – 15 rounds.

Minors ages 12-18 must be accompanied by parent or legal guardian. Shooters provide their own .22 pistol and ammunition.

Participants may arrive and start any time between 5-7:15 pm.

Rimfire Rifle League (Winter Series) @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center
