Beyond BOW – Intro to Handgun Series @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

THIS CLASS IS NOW FULL!

Learn basic fundamentals of shooting, handgun selection, and safety in a comfortable atmosphere. Participate in the full series to gain confidence, challenge yourself to more techniques, and hang out with like-minded ladies.

Must 18 years or older to register. $15/participant/session.

This series will be on Mondays from 6-8 pm.

Attend anywhere from one to all four sessions. Please be sure to attend sessions 1 and 2 in order to attend sessions 3 and 4 if you are an introductory level student.

Session 1 – Feb 3: Intro to Handguns, Firearm Safety, Gun Handling, Range Rules, and .22 Handgun Shooting

Session 2 – Feb 10: More .22 Handgun Shooting – Getting Comfortable with the Gun and the Range

Session 3 – Feb 17: Introduction to Centerfire Handguns

Session 4 – Feb 24: Marksmanship Coaching & Target Challenge

You may bring your own handgun and ammunition, or we will provide one for you. All guns entering the facility must be unloaded, cased, and action open.

Archery 1 – JOAD @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center
Feb 24 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

This basic USA Archery class is open to students who are new to JOAD or who are still working to advance to Archery 2. Explore Archery is a recommended prerequisite but not required.

Our Center Shot Archery Academy course includes achievement awards, skill training, and games with a focus on guiding each student in improvement at their own pace. Each session includes a short lesson and coaching while students are on the line. Archery 1 students have the opportunity to shoot for their green and purple pins during select class sessions. Over the course of the quarter, students will advance their scoring skills, learn about competition etiquette, and work to achieve the pins and techniques needed to advance to the next level.

No equipment is required, but personal equipment is allowed for some portions of the class.

If seats are listed as available, students may register and join the class at any time except the last 4 weeks of the quarter. Allowances may be made at the discretion of the instructor. Full price still applies.

Women’s Combo Hunter/Bowhunter Classroom Course @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

This female-focused course is a fun and educational setting for students who would like to earn their hunter education certificates for both Firearm and Bowhunter. The course will be taught by exciting, dedicated instructors who are eager to share their knowledge and passion about hunting, safety, and ethics in the field. Participants must be at least 11 years old to earn their certificate. Students under 19 years of age should be accompanied by a parent/guardian to the first session; parents/guardians have the option to sit in on the class, but it is not required.

The women’s focused Hunter Education Class provides an opportunity for moms, daughters, grandmothers, aunts, and friends to get together and learn more about an activity that is not only fun, but a great way to enjoy the outdoors and become a part of Nebraska’s conservation heritage. Participants will leave the course with basic knowledge, skills, and hopefully the confidence to move forward as a safe and ethical hunter and recreational shooter. This class will spend time on the indoor shooting ranges with exceptional instructors, offering plenty of hands-on opportunities with class-provided equipment. Bring a friend or family member to share the experience!

Class meets on Tues Feb 25, Thurs Feb 27, Thurs Mar 5 in the evening, and then on Saturday Mar 7 starting at 9 am. Please bring a lunch on Saturday. Students must attend all sessions to earn certificates.
About the Location

Any child under 11 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian every session;
At the first session, everyone under 18 years of age must give the instructor a signed, completed Parental Release Form (download, print, and sign);
All students under 19 years of age should be accompanied by a parent/guardian to the first session to ensure appropriate information is received on dates, sessions, and additional requirements.

You must cancel your registration before Monday, February 24, 2020, at 6:00pm CST.

All registrants for this event must be 11 years of age by February 25, 2020.
To be certified for this event you must be at least 11 years old by the last day of the class.

Firearm hunters ages 12 through 29 must have completed a Firearm Education Course and carry proof on their person when hunting any species with a firearm, muzzleloader, or air gun.

Additionally:

Archery hunters ages 12 through 29 must have completed a Bowhunter Education Course and carry proof on their person when hunting Deer, Antelope, Elk, or Mountain Sheep with a bow or crossbow.

A Combination Course will provide instruction from knowledgeable and dedicated volunteer instructors in the safe use of firearm and archery equipment, fundamentals of hunting, shooting and hunting techniques, game identification, conservation management as well as hunter ethics.

Students 11 years of age and older on the examination day will be able to take the test and complete the course and may be issued certificates of successful completion of both Firearm and Bowhunter Education.

The classroom course is a minimum of 14 hours total and a minimum of 2 sessions. Most classes offered are 2 to 5 sessions. .

Explore Rifle (Ages 8-10) @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

Looking for a good way to introduce your son or daughter to the lifelong habits of safe gun handling and the basic concepts of marksmanship? Whether your child is interested in recreation, competition, or hunting, this class is where they need to be! Explore Rifle is a 4-week course designed for youth ages 8-10, but open to those up to 15. Youth 7 & under are not permitted.

BB guns (.177 cal) used for all class exercises (equipment provided). Air guns are a tried-and-true non-threatening way to teach gun basics and a great building-block to becoming a safe and competent shooter with larger caliber equipment. Parents/guardians are encouraged to stay and learn how to help guide their new shooter.

Cost for 4-week series: $40/student

Minimum 4 students required to hold class. Participants must be preregistered; space may not be available for walk-in students. Class limited to 12 students only.

Course outline
Week 1A: Basic gun safety & intro to the gun/range; dry & live firing at target backs from bench position.
Week 2A: Gun/range safety continued; gun parts continued; intro to sight picture; live firing at 1 bull target from bench position.
Week 3A: Safety & gun parts review; shot placement; sight adjustment; live firing at 5 bull target from bench position.
Week 4A: Shooting for score & scoring targets; live firing at 10 bull targets from bench position.

Explore Rifle is part one of a three part (12 weeks overall) curriculum. A minimum number of interested students is required to schedule a next level class.

Ladies’ Lunch and Learn Series: Intro to Archery @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

Every Thursday in February, ladies can attend a lunch and learn beginner archery series. Each week will feature a mini-lesson, time on the archery range practicing with a bow, and then time for lunch! Lunches will be provided for participants at no additional cost.

The sessions will be taught at an indoor archery facility and space is limited to 15 people per week. You can attend anywhere from one to all four weeks.

Feb 20: Follow the Arrow
Feb 27: Standing Strong

Lessons are scheduled 12:10-12:45 pm, but you are welcome to stay later if you are able.

$10/week, ages 16+

Explore Archery @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

Explore Archery is a fun and perfect fit for beginners of any ability wanting to get started in the sport of archery.

If a student is fairly new to archery and looking for a full introductory program, Explore Archery has everything you need – bows, arrows, and enthusiastic instructors! You’ll learn range safety, fundamentals of archery shooting, and parts of a bow and arrow – plus receive skill-building coaching and play exciting games.

Ages 8 and over.

The biggest challenge for new shooters is getting started. First Shots makes getting started in shooting very easy – and, best of all, it’s only $10!

At a First Shots seminar, you’ll receive:
-An educational introduction to the safe and recreational use of firearms
-A clear understanding of the local requirements for owning and purchasing a firearm
-Individual and group training
-A rundown of shooting sports opportunities for all levels of interest
-A chance to give shooting a try!

This seminar offers a small group setting for students ages 16 and over. All equipment is provided.

Closed-neck shirts and closed-toe shoes are recommended.
