CLOSED – INDOOR ARCHERY RANGE TO PUBLIC @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

The Outdoor Education Center’s indoor archery range will be closed to public use all day on August 17th, 2019. The indoor firearm range and outdoor archery range are not affected by this closure.

Vintage Baseball Game @ Buffalo Bill State Historical Park

The Star Baseball Club of the Colorado Territory will be taking on The North Platte Bison (anyone from the crowd age 16 and over) and the Buffalo Belles (an all women’s team)  1880 game rules are followed.  Fun free family event!

A Walk Back in Time – August 1864 @ Rock Creek Station State Historical Park

Living Historians from across the nation will inhabit the reconstructed road ranche at Rock Creek Station State Historical Park demonstrating the daily life of the site in August of 1864. These living Historians will recreate general life tasks such as haying, carpentry, blacksmithing, stock tending, and running a mid-19th century Overland Trail road ranche in Nebraska Territory.

Smaller living history demonstration take place every third Saturday May to October.  For more information contact the park at 402-729-5777.

Cannon Fire 5K @ Fort Atkinson State Historical Park

The Cannon Fire 5K will be hosted by Anytime Fitness Elkhorn at the beautiful Fort Atkinson state historical park in Fort Calhoun.  
This 5K will include t-shirts and finisher medals for all participants.
The course will cover the timber trails and roads through the state park.

Race Date: Saturday, August 17th
Race Start Time: 9:00 AM

Expect a hill on the course, gravel and paved paths, mowed grass portions of the course across the prairie, post-race drinks and snacks, and a FUN atmosphere as Anytime Fitness Elkhorn heads to the fort to bring you 3.1 miles of a rocking good time.

Packet pick-up is at Anytime Fitness Elkhorn (204th and Maple) on the following days/times:
Friday, August 16th: Noon – 6 pm
Saturday, August 17th: 7:30-8:45 am (prior to the race)

Try Archery @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

Want to see what archery is all about? Never held a bow before? Not sure where to begin?

Try Archery is your place to start!

This easy-going program covers basic range rules and procedures, along with simple form. Students get to fling arrows on their very first session! And whether archery turns out to be your thing or not, students walk away with the ability to be safe and have fun wherever adventure takes them next.

All equipment provided. Open to both kids (8 and up) and adults – ideal for families. Weekly 1-hour class, meets for three weeks.

Evening Kayaking @ Danish Alps State Recreation Area

Sunday, August 17th at 7:30-9:30 PM. Meet at the Boat Ramp. Preregister at the Entry Booth. $15 per person using NGPC kayaks.

For those who have kayaked before, come experience a sunset on Kramper Lake the best way possible, from the water! Listen to the sounds of Danish Alps nightlife while leisurely paddling. Bring any lights you have that can get wet. Kayaks provided for a maximum of 8 people per session. 3 single and 4 double kayaks available, first come, first served.

Archery 1 – JOAD @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center
Aug 19 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

This basic USA Archery class is open to students who are new to JOAD or who are still working to advance to Archery 2. Explore Archery is a recommended prerequisite but not required.

Our Center Shot Archery Academy course includes achievement awards, skill training, and games with a focus on guiding each student in improvement at their own pace. Each session includes a short lesson and coaching while students are on the line. Archery 1 students have the opportunity to shoot for their green and purple pins during select class sessions. Over the course of the quarter, students will advance their scoring skills, learn about competition etiquette, and work to achieve the pins and techniques needed to advance to the next level.

No equipment is required, but personal equipment is allowed for some portions of the class.

If seats are listed as available, students may register and join the class at any time except the last 4 weeks of the quarter. Allowances may be made at the discretion of the instructor. Full price still applies.

Ages 8 and over.

Petals and Poetry @ Fort Kearny State Recreation Area

Please join us at 9:00 am for a beautiful sun-filled morning of picking wildflowers! Use a press to keep them in your special journal and add a dash of prairie poetry. Just bring yourself,  a water or cuppa coffee, your favorite poems and a camera.

Glock Practice Nights @ Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center
Aug 20 @ 5:00 pm – 7:15 pm

Come practice for upcoming Glock matches at the Outdoor Education Center on July 6, August 3, and September 7.

Attend as few or as many nights as you wish, $10 per attendance. Course of fire and targets will match actual competition conditions.

Participants may arrive and start any time between 5-7:15 pm.
